St. Joseph - Visitor Information

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - St. Joseph encourages family and friends to visit patients during their stay. For the added comfort, care and safety of our patients, visitors and staff, the hospital has established the following visitor's guidelines.

Visiting Hours

Recommended visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.

Family members and friends are encouraged to visit, but recommended visits are between general visiting hours to allow all patients the quiet and rest necessary for a speedy recovery. Visitors after 8 pm are directed to the Skywalk Bridge or Emergency Department to obtain a security bracelet, which must be worn at all times in the building.

Visits may also be limited due to the patient's condition and doctor's recommendation. Should special circumstances arise, feel free to ask the nurse if alternate visiting hours may be arranged. To provide exceptional and compassionate health care to our patients, visitation will be restricted if visitors have an obvious illness or communicable disease.

Visitors should always respect the patient's wishes while maintaining confidentiality, privacy and security to others. Patients may decide who can and cannot visit. Please discuss any concerns with the patient's caregiver.

Wheaton Franciscan Baby Care - St. Joseph visitation is unlimited based on the patient's wishes. Immediate family, grandparents, and children are welcome at all times, unless the condition of the mother or newborn requires limitation.

Overnight Visits

In order to be respectful of the patient environment, overnight visiting will be limited to one person. Visitors must wear a security bracelet at all times. Overnight visitors must be at least 18 years old.

Guest Accommodations

For family members who wish to stay with a patient during his or her hospitalization, we will provide guest accommodations based upon availability, for a nominal fee. Reservations may be made by calling 414-447-2113.

Obstetrical patients who have been discharged and whose baby remains hospitalized may stay in the hospital as an "inn guest" as long as there is a room available. There is no charge for this service. Please discuss with the patient's caregiver.

Children Visitation

Children are permitted to visit a friend or loved one. It is the responsibility of the family member to supervise their children at all times.

Any child with a communicable disease or obvious illness will be restricted from patient units and contact.

Pet Visitation

Other than seeing-eye dogs, a physician's order is required for pet visitation. Please contact your caregiver to arrange a beneficial time for pet visitation. Pets are limited to dogs and cats and must be free of illness.

Waiting Areas

There are specially designed lounge areas for visitors on each patient floor, in the main lobby and in special units such as the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, and the Department of Surgery.

Parking

Main Hospital Entrance
5000 West Chambers Street

Valet service is available 5:30 am. to 8:00 pm seven days a week. (Visiting hours begin at 11am.)

After hours, parking is available at the 2nd Floor South bridge or Emergency Department.

Professional Office Building
Located at 51st and Burleigh streets.

Valet service is available 8am through 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Enter at the entrance to the Emergency Department and pull up to the front of the Sherman Cancer Center.

Patients and visitors can ask valet staff to make special arrangements for car drop off and retrieval so individuals with limited mobility don't have to travel great walking distances to their appointment destination.

Free self-parking also is provided in the hospital-operated parking structure, located between 51st and 52nd streets. For after-visiting-hours parking, spaces are available near the structure's 2nd floor bridge to the hospital or near the Emergency Department.

Limited short-term parking is available on streets surrounding the hospital.

If desired, security staff will escort visitors to their cars, whether they are parked in the parking structure or on the street. They also will help visitors who have car trouble. Call extension 2154 to arrange for these services.

Gifts and Deliveries

Mail, plants and flowers will be accepted on most units, but visitors should check with the nurse before bringing gifts of food and drinks to patients. Only Mylar (nonlatex) balloons are allowed in patient rooms. In the ICU, live plants and flowers are not allowed. Please check with the nurse regarding any other gifts.

Mail received after the patient is discharged will be forwarded to the patient's home.
